Salmon – Fantastic sport is to be had on some of the best fishing beats on the River Tay, the world-renowned Scottish salmon river, where catches of between 20lbs and 40lbs are recorded. The River Tay flows through the heart of Perthshire, out of Loch Tay, through Perth and to the estuary at Dundee. Kenmore hosts the opening ceremony of the Tay season each year on 15 January with much celebration and a bottle of whisky being broken over the bows of a boat for good fortune during the coming season.
The British Record Fish was caught on the River Tay by Miss Georgina Ballantine on the Glendelvine beat not far from Perth – a huge and impressive 64lbs!
The River Tay salmon fishing season runs from 15 January and closes on 15 October each year.
